The Demon Wants A Drinkin’ Buddy

When I first sobered up, I felt bad for my friends. Who are they going to drink with now? what will they do without me drinking with them[?] Oh, you poor people. After a couple of years, my brother came to my house with a case of beer. He put one in front of my wife, not knowing she had stopped drinking also. I freaked out. Even though she is not an alcoholic, I feared she would become one if she drank the beer. I yelled out, “The devil wants a drinkin’ buddy.” I’ve been using this slogan ever since. It is true, the devil wants a drinkin’ buddy. The demon. Thank you, Lord, for leading us not into temptation.

How much we all know, by the ripe ol’ age of twenty
Some of us cease to learn, yes, we already know plenty
If we make it to thirty, we begin to realize
We’re actually looking through little baby’s eyes
We start a search, for what? We don’t know
It’s a life-long journey, so spread love as you go.

Since the beginning of my “new journey” I have heard people say, “Do what’s in front of you.” “Do the next right thing.” I try to follow this advice. I don’t want the sloth to get in. A good friend always says, “Do what you can do.” If I try to be honest with myself, I can sleep well at night. Lord, I pray for you to help me to do the job you have set before me today. My Master, make it clear what I should do.
